Steve Shumbres
Quarterback and strong safety · Lycoming
The March 5, 2018, Times-Tribune story on Steve Shumbres’s hiring as Scranton’s head coach says he played strong safety and quarterback at North Pocono, fractured vertebrae in the opening week of his senior year, came back, and led the Trojans to the Eastern Conference Class 3A playoffs.
He coached as an assistant at North Pocono under John Whitelavich. The same story has him later as an assistant at Northeast High School in Fort Lauderdale, the freshman coach at Scranton, and the assistant and offensive coordinator at Scranton Prep for Nick Donato, before he ran Scranton’s offense and was named head coach. He was 36 at that hiring.
He played in the secondary at Lycoming.
