North Pocono football before Nick Donato

The Times-Tribune dates the varsity program to 1965. The 8-0 Suburban Conference championship of 1968 has its own page. The second Suburban title, 1970, is on the championship list.

After the move from the Suburban Conference to the Big 11, the same flashback says North Pocono had nine losing seasons in the ten years from 1971 through 1980. In the ten seasons before Nick Donato arrived in 1981, the program won 25 games. His first full winning year on that story is 1982, at 6-5. 1968, 1979, and 1982 have their own pages.

An Oct. 19, 2024, Times-Tribune photo caption has Scranton Tech’s Bob Rade rushing for 158 yards on 36 carries and scoring twice in a 24-20 Big 11 win at North Pocono on Oct. 19, 1974. An Oct. 3, 2009, Times-Tribune lookback, in the items from 30 years earlier, has Abington Heights shutting out North Pocono 42-0 in October 1979. Matt Kennedy went 90 yards on the second play from scrimmage. The paper called it Abington Heights’ fifth shutout in six games. A Sept. 26, 2009, lookback, in the items from 30 years earlier, has Bob Yockey scoring on a pair of 1-yard runs in a 26-6 win over Scranton Tech in September 1979. A Sept. 22, 2012, lookback, in the items from 30 years earlier, has Valley View winning 42-0 in September 1982. Bob Castellani scored three touchdowns and rushed for 108 yards.

A January 1970 Times-Tribune photo of a banquet for Big 9 and Suburban Conference stars includes three North Pocono players: Carl Lasandrelli, Dave Lucarine, and Bob Burns. Nick Donato is in the same picture as a Dunmore player. The 1970 Suburban title still has no published record, so it stays on this page.

An Oct. 6, 2012, Times-Tribune lookback, in the items from 30 years earlier, has Mike Palys scoring on a fumble recovery and an interception return in a 20-6 win over Abington Heights in October 1982.
