League

Head coach Jason Sepkowski. PIAA District 2. Lackawanna 1. Did not qualify.

Jason Sepkowski’s last season finished 0-10 and 0-7, eighth in Lackawanna 1. It is the fifth season in the 19-33 line. He reapplied when the job opened, and the board hired Greg Dolhon.

The opener at Trojan Stadium was 21-41 against Dunmore. John Gething’s 40-yard touchdown on fourth-and-3, with 4:16 left in the third, put North Pocono up 14-13. In the next 43 seconds a bobbled punt snap gave Dunmore the ball at the 35, Austin Seamon scored, a pitch over Gething’s head rolled into the end zone for a safety, and Seamon scored again after the free kick. Seamon finished with 196 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. Dunmore rushed for 437 yards and gained 479 overall. Sepkowski said the mistakes snowballed on a team that had not played many games.

Scranton Prep won 42-7 at Trojan Stadium. Marshall Kupinski returned a kickoff 97 yards, and Pat Perih scored off a blocked punt. North Pocono lost four fumbles, including one three yards from the goal line. Jack Williams passed for 129 yards and a touchdown. J.P. Gething rushed for 84 yards on 23 carries. Sepkowski said the problem was mental mistakes.

On Oct. 7, Delaware Valley won 55-23 at Trojan Stadium. Joe Santiago scored three touchdowns, and the Warriors led 34-7 at halftime. J.P. Gething rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns, including a 54-yard run early in the fourth quarter. Jack Williams and Nick Russoniello combined for 13 completions, and Russoniello threw a touchdown pass. On Oct. 21 at Wallenpaupack, Pat Ingulli rushed for 344 yards and four touchdowns, including a 99-yard run, in a 40-21 win. Joey Waldsmith caught four passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns, both from Jack Williams, who passed for 131 yards. Gething rushed for 195 yards and a 4-yard touchdown and moved his season total to 1,111. Wallenpaupack held him to 20 yards in the second half.

West Scranton won 35-0 at Scranton Memorial Stadium and left North Pocono 0-5 and 0-2 in the division. The Trojans reached the 17 and were stopped on fourth-and-1, then a 67-yard run by Gething set up first-and-goal at the 8 and they turned it over on downs. Sepkowski said his team was not making the plays.

The closest game was 15-18 against Abington Heights at Trojan Stadium. Gething rushed for 148 yards, 123 of them in the first half, and caught a 14-yard touchdown. Quinn Karam had 123 of his 174 yards after halftime and scored twice. Valley View closed the year 48-7 at John Henzes/Veterans Memorial Stadium, clinched a share of the Division I title with Scranton, and held North Pocono to 117 yards. Gething’s 62-yard run in the fourth was the Trojans’ score. He had nine carries for no yards in the first half. Berwick’s 38-28 win is on the MaxPreps log. No newspaper recap of that score was used here.
