Head coach Greg Dolhon. PIAA District 2. Lackawanna 1. Did not qualify.
Greg Dolhon’s first season, and his first head-coaching job, finished 0-10 and 0-8, eighth in Lackawanna 1. The opener was at Dunmore, where he had been the offensive coach, and Dunmore won 39-0. Crestwood won 21-20 and Riverside won 57-47. Valley View closed it 54-0.
A September 2016 Times-Tribune notebook said the program was coming off its first 0-10 when Dolhon was hired, went 0-10 again in his first year, and was mired in a 23-game losing streak. The 2012 hiring story is the source for the job itself: the board chose him over Jason Sepkowski, who had gone 19-33 in five seasons.
The opener was Dolhon’s first game, a 39-0 loss at Dunmore Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Times-Tribune had Austin Seamon and Daiqwon Buckley combining for 171 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Buckley had 102 yards on 14 carries, with scores from 15 and 3 yards, and the halftime score was 20-0. Seamon scored from 3 yards, added another touchdown, and returned an interception 20 yards. Sal Marchese scored from 8 yards in the fourth. Dunmore was the top-ranked team. Dolhon had been Jack Henzes’s offensive coach, and Henzes is his father-in-law.
Crestwood won 21-20 the next week in a game the Times-Tribune called nonleague. North Pocono was on a 12-game losing streak. Ricky Goodall rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Garrett Fisher’s 8-yard run with 1:04 left made it 21-20, and Dolhon went for two. Crestwood’s Tyler Robinson stopped Goodall on the sweep. Kota Kishel had a 75-yard touchdown catch, four receptions for 117 yards, and 32 rushing yards. Shariff Daniels fumbled at the goal line and Tyler Schirra recovered for a touchdown that put North Pocono ahead 14-6. Jay Popson rushed for two touchdowns. North Pocono was 0-2. Crestwood was 1-1.
Riverside won 57-47 at Trojan Stadium the week after that, a game the Times-Tribune put at 970 yards of total offense. Nick Dranchak threw for 474 yards and five touchdowns. David Sweetman had 359 yards of offense, 173 rushing and 186 receiving, and five touchdowns. North Pocono led 34-21 after the first quarter. Ricky White scored on a 30-yard return of a blocked punt. Ricky Goodall scored from 22 and 59 yards and returned a kickoff 84 yards. Garrett Fisher scored from 4. Halftime was 42-34, Riverside. Shariff Daniels scored from 5 to make it 42-41. Matt Nawrocki scored on a muffed punt to make it 47-42. Dranchak’s next-play 76-yard touchdown to Jim Tucker made it 50-47, and Sweetman’s 35-yard run late in the fourth made it 57-47. North Pocono was 0-3.
A Nov. 5, 2022, Times-Tribune lookback, in the items from 10 years earlier, has Ryan Judge scoring two rushing touchdowns in Abington Heights’ 41-7 win in November 2012.
